Quality Assurance, or QA for short = Prevention of Defects. Two key principles characterise QA: "fit for purpose" (the product should be suitable for the intended purpose) and "right first time" (mistakes should be eliminated). Often addressed by the introduction of A Quality Management System (QMS) around a recognised standard like ISO 9001.
The other is Quality Control which is the detection of defects, most commonly associated with testing which takes place within a quality management system typically referred to as verification and validation.
Quality management can be considered to have three main components: Quality Control, Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement. Quality management is focused not only on product or service quality, but also the means to achieve it. Quality management therefore uses quality assurance and control of processes as well as products / services to achieve more consistent quality.

Environmental Management is not, as the phrase could suggest, the management of the environment as such, but rather the management of interaction by the modern human societies with, and impact upon the environment.
Environmental Management -  As with all management functions, effective management tools, standards and systems are required. An 'environmental management standard or system or protocol attempts to reduce environmental impact as measured by some objective criteria. The ISO 14001 standard is the most widely used standard for environmental risk management and is closely aligned to the European Eco-Management & Audit Scheme (EMAS).
